50 year old pastor elected for the Africa department
(2010-03-02) The Council of the United Evangelical Mission (UEM) has appointed Rev. John Wesley Kabango as the new executive secretary for the Africa department. The 50-year old pastor of the Anglican Church of Ruanda will take up his position in the mission house in Wuppertal in 2011, after taking part in an intensive language course. Rev. Kabango is an ordained pastor, teacher by education and holding a master degree in development studies. He is married and has five children, two of them grown-up.
Since 1997 John Wesley Kabango has been working as the UEM project coordinator for the Anglican Church of Ruanda. In this position he has been in charge for several projects financed by the UEM. He is JPIC-contact person and responsible for projects e.g. in the areas of HIV/AIDS, women's rights, children's rights and agriculture. Rev. Kabango is chairman of the Shyogwe diocese partnership comittee (partnership with the church district of Duesseldorf/Germany) and therefore has close relationships to church life in Germany.
"I'm very much looking forward to this challenge", Rev. Kabango said after his appointment. "It's a big step to Germany, but I come to friends."
