Floods in the Philippines leave more than thousand dead

Churches serve as refugee camps

The real extent of the flood disaster in the Philippines become visible bit by bit. More than thousand people have died and its still unclear how many are still missing, the United Church in the Philippines (UCCP) reported - at least one thousand more.

Churches and Schools have been destroyed, Bishop Melzar Labuntog from Northwest Mindanao told the United Evangelical Mission (UEM). Tens of thousands were brought to evacuation centers. The church opened their building for the refugees as well.  Food, medicine, clothes and tents are still urgently needed.

On Monday the UEM, the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland and the Evangelical Church of Westphalia gave 30,000 Euro as an emergency support. ung.
