Working Priorities

The UEM supports numerous projects in various fields of work.

In all regions

  • combating HIV and Aids
  • promoting concregational life, evangelism and the training of ministers
  • working with women and young people
  • human rights and peace work
  • campaigning for debt relief
The bloody war in the DR Congo has traumatized thousands of children. Girls and boys have been abused as child soldiers, many of them have been sexually assaulted or subjected to other human rights violations. The Baptist Church in Central Africa runs 135 social centres where these children are given psycholgical help. Furthermore, they get basic eductiation to help them find a place in life.

In Africa

  • income generating projects and credit unions
  • peace and reconciliation work, especially in Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo
  • aid for war refugees in the Congo
  • diaconic institutions such as hospitals
  • schools and vocational institutions
  • working with children with special needs
  • training of pastors and evangelists
  • counselling of people living with HIV and AIDS

in Asia

  • campaigning for workers' rights
  • human rights work in West Paupua, Indonesia
  • educating and training people, e.g. in China
The United Church of Christ in the Philippines runs a »Kiddie-Center« in Libmanan. The centre prepares children with learning disabilities between the ages of four and seven for school.
The battle against AIDS has become one of the top priorities in Asia. The UEM member churches work together on this, pooling their ressources. Removing the cause such as poverty and ignorance is as important to them as caring for people already affected by deficiency syndrome.

In Germany

  • Ecumenical Workshops as centres of ecumenical learning and education on »One-World-Issues«
  • lobbying and campaigning for human rights
  • co-operation with foreign-language parishes
