When the full moon shines, young men from the Highlands of West Papua go hunting in the forests with bows and arrows. When the moonlit nights are over, they have to stay at home. There is no other light at night in their villages. Night begins at 6 pm, all the year round. When someone gets injured, operations often have to be carried out in the light of a gas lantern.
This year the UEM has given a solar light to a health centre - and to others as well. More and more villages get lights for the long nights. Students can learn in the evenings, and the bible can be studied as well.
It is expensive to transport the technical equipment to the Highlands of West Papua. Therefore technicians from the Highlands shall be trained to put the lamps together and to repair them when needed. Our project partner is our member church in West Papua.
We want to buy at least 2000 solar lights for West Papua and we would like to support the training of the technicians, too. Please help us to bring light to the Highlands of West Papua.
