Exhibitions on the General Assembly of the UEM

There will be three exhibitions on the Borkum during the General Assembly:

Freedom of the Children of God

»Freiheit, die Gott uns schenkt«: Das erste Poster der Plakatserie, zu der es auch Info-Material gibt.
»Freiheit, die Gott uns schenkt«: Das erste Poster der Plakatserie, zu der es auch Info-Material gibt.

What is the concept of mission today and what are its fields of work? What makes mission authentic? And what exactly needs to be done to answer God's call? The exhibition »The glorious freedom of the Children of God« endeavours to answer these questions as seen from the point of view of the UEM and the Norddeutsche Mission - joint partner in the poster campaign.

Following the the key issues of what mission means today, five additional posters follow the footprints of missionary work within the UEM and highlight particular fields of work such as the Anti-Aids-Programme, the UEM personnel exchange scheme, partnership work, the volunteer programme or rehabilitation programmes.

»Climate of Justice«

Is it fair that those countries which contribute least to climate change are among those most severely hit by its consequences? What happens when the rain forests will have disappeared from this plant?

The UEM exhibition »Climate of Justice« gives a basic introduction into the facts of climate change and its consequences, particular on the countries of UEM member churches in Africa and Asia, and Germany. It gives theological reasons why responsibility rests with all of us.

Furthermore, the exhibition presents projects of member churches and UEM partners aiming at protecting the environment and reducing CO2 emission. The Amity Foundation in China for example distributes solar cooking facilities in China to help reduce the amount of wood required for cooking in rural areas. The side effect - as in many such projects - is a very positive one: women do not need to go for hours to collect wood anymore.

Everyone can contribute to alleviating the climate change, for instance by changing his or her own habits, such as using less water for the shower, shutting off technical equipment without using the standby mode or taking the bike instead of the car for short distances.

Visitors of the exhibition may calculate their own ecological footprint, that is they can find out how much or how little they damage the climate by their own behaviour.

The exhibition is aimed at raising awareness not causing fatalism: it may not be too late just yet.

»Climate of Justice« consists of 20 roll-ups and some interactive elements. The vers around the globe displayed on the poster reads: »As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease.« (1 Mose 8,22)
