(14/05/2008/uem) According to the latest update sent by Amity to international partners, over 20,000 people died and were wounded in Beichuan County. Over 60,000 people are missing in Wenchuan County, which is the epicentre of the earthquake while the total population in Wenzhuan is a little over 110,000. Du Jiangyan City, a school with over 1000 students clapsed, only 58 escaped, the rest are still missing, the latest Amity update says.
Only a few hours after the earthquake took place, Mr. Yue Yaomeng, a member of Amity staff went to Chengdu, capital city of Sichuan Province at 7:00pm on the 12th of May. "Right now, Yaomeng is busy collecting information, purchasing water, compressed biscuits, tents and sheltering plastic. However, it is not easy to get the supplies at the moment", Amity reported.
