For the West Papua Christian Church – GKI - Tanah Papua (Indone-sia) we are looking for a
Health Expert
(especially on HIV/Aids)
After Jakarta, the Land of Papua has the highest rate of HIV infections in Indonesia. The most recent statistics in the Land of Papua (the provinces of Papua and West Papua) indicate that by 30 June 2007 there were 3377 persons registered as »HIV/AIDS-cases« of which 1507 had contracted AIDS.
Especially among women the infections are unusually high. More or less adequate medical services only exist in the cities of Timika and Jayapura whereas the situation in the Jayawijaya Highlands, Merauke and certain parts of the Bird’s Head Region are alarming. The UEM member church GKI Tanah Papua is very much involved in the struggle against the pandemic. Nevertheless she badly needs an international expert to assist in the monitoring of the situation and offer educational trainings to different parts of church and soci-ety. He or she will also be engaged in further developing the Anti-AIDS campaign of the church.
What we expect:
- Clear witness to Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.
- Wholeheartedly cooperating in furthering the aims and aspirations of the United Evangelical Mission.
- Support the GKI-TP in its diaconal services
- Cooperate closely in a team with other staff of GKI-TP in combating the HIV-AIDS pandemic
- Three trainings of GKI-TP staff p.a. (e.g., up-grading courses)
- Support op public programs to conscientize youth on HIV and AIDS (four programs p.a.).
- Informal health education for villagers (six visits p.a.).
- Preparation for HIV and AIDS campaign “The Dangers of HIV/AIDS for Papua” (five hours per week)
- Development of concepts for healing ministry for HIV/AIDS victims (two hours per week).
Qualification:
- Social Worker, physician (medical doctor), biologist, or another specialist with equal qualifications (university degree)
- at least two years of experience in HIV/Aids related work
- excellent command of the English language
- willing to learn the Indonesian language quickly
The working term is three years, starting as soon as possible.
