UEM's volunteer programme
- Going abroad for one year: UEM's volunteer programme
Helping handicapped children in Tanzania or teaching orphans in Indonesia: Volunteers take great responsibilities. But they get rewards: Experiences for a lifetime and many new friends. UEM offers chances for young people from Africa and Asia to go abroad for several months up to one year, helping in social projects in UEM member churchs in another continent.
South-North Volunteer Programme
In 2002 the first South-North volunteers were sent to Germany through UEM in order to live and work for one year in a German congregation. After a few years of interruption UEM has revitalized this programme in 2011 to create learning opportunities for young members of its member churches. Two volunteers from Botswana and Sumatra/Indonesia have worked as volunteers for a Christian youth foundation in Germany.
In 2012 five new volunteers have come to Germany. The aims of the programme are intercultural exchange and sharing experiences with other Christians. Also, the volunteers are expected to support the work of their hosting institution actively.
Call for applications
For 2013/2014 UEM looks for eight applicants for a placement in a German member church. Please note that applications have to be submitted through UEM member churches, NOT by individual candidates
The closing date for submitting applications is 10 November 2012. Every UEM member church is encouraged to suggest between 1-3 candidates.
Candidates should be active members of your church, ideally in youth leadership roles, suitable to take over leadership roles in your church in the future and enjoy the full support of your church, expressed by the attached church endorsement. Both female and male applicants should be considered.
