Helping handicapped children in Tanzania or teaching orphans in Indonesia: Volunteers take great responsibilities. But they get rewards: Experiences for a lifetime and many new friends. UEM offers chances for young people from Africa and Asia to go abroad for several months up to one year, helping in social projects in UEM member churchs in another continent.
In 2002 the first South-North volunteers were sent to Germany through UEM in order to live and work for one year in a German congregation. After a few years of interruption UEM has revitalized this programme in 2011 to create learning opportunities for young members of its member churches. Two volunteers from Botswana and Sumatra/Indonesia have worked as volunteers for a Christian youth foundation in Germany.
In 2012 five new volunteers will come to Germany. The aims of the programme are intercultural exchange and sharing experiences with other Christians. Also, the volunteers are expected to support the work of their hosting institution actively.
