Kinshasa is not only the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, it is also the third largest city in Africa with more than 13 million inhabitants. The republic's metropolis in Central Africa faces a number of permanent challenges such as high unemployment, insecurity and violence, hunger and difficult access to basic social services, poor housing and much more. etc.

In the fight against the Corona pandemic, the Church of Christ in the Congo (ECC), with financial support from UEM, carried out awareness raising activities on the Covid-19 infection pathways and distributed hygiene kits to particularly vulnerable people who could not afford the protection measures. The head of the Central Church of Christ in Congo, Pastor Dr. André Bokundoa-bo-Likabe, distributed 300 hygiene kits during the service in the courtyard of Kinshasa Protestant Cathedral. This was followed by an extensive education campaign to raise awareness of the novel corona virus.

The distributed kits contained material for protection against Covid-19 such as hand wash kits consisting of liquid soap and disinfectant. In addition, 1,000 protective masks were produced specifically for people on the margins of Congolese society, i.e. people with disabilities, albinos, widows and students without families. The masks were sewn by young people under the guidance of Pastor Mole, a pastor of the Baptist Church in Congo. "God bless all donors of UEM and the church leadership. Without their help we would hardly be able to buy enough food for our families, not to mention hygienic protective materials," said a widow representative. Dr. Micheline Kamba, representative of people with disabilities, expressed her thanks as follows: "We are very happy that we have been thought of. People with disabilities are often forgotten in our African communities. We thank you above all, Pastor Bokundoa!" Last but not least, a representative of people with albinism also expressed his thanks: "We thank the ECC church leadership and UEM for the fact that our congregation has not been forgotten. We are happy about this practically lived inclusion."
