Mime Art for Life

The partnership between the church districts of Wesel, Tecklenburg and Otjiwarongo has existed for over 40 years. It is characterized by mutual communication, intensive encounters and multi-layered projects. The Corona pandemic has brought many plans to a standstill. Especially in such times it is important to express one's feelings, to communicate and to feel and give joy. Out of this motivation, an exciting trilateral project was born.

Together with the pantomime courage project "Mime Art for Life" under the direction of Magret Phiri from South Africa and the coordination as well as the ideas of the initiator and internationally successful mime artist Nemo (Wolfgang Neuhausen), the idea of a courage-giving video project for participation was born.

Pantomime overcomes borders

We want to remind people in Africa, Germany and Asia to remember their own strengths and humor in these difficult times and to give each other support. We expect this initiative to strengthen the Christian and ecumenical communion across borders, language barriers and differences in cultures.

With the support of the partnership committee of the church district Wesel and the UEM, pantomime encouragement videos have been produced in South Africa and Namibia, which encourage the active people and other people in similar situations to discover their own talent, bring joy to others and spread confidence as well as open up new perspectives. The videos are suitable for all interested people with and without disabilities: children, teenagers, adults, seniors. The videos are based on the globally understandable Do-What-I-do method developed by W. Neuhausen, which does not require the use of words and can be used by anyone.

Pantomime invites to participate

The produced sequences can be implemented easily in church services, once as a performance, but also as a motif-related or free action with the participation of the congregation or youth work. During the production of the individual videos, we received very positive feedback, especially from the new members from Namibia, who participated with a lot of energy and commitment. Thus, a community was built across the borders of South Africa and Namibia.
