The UEM Human Rights Campaign 2026 centres on the theme “… and a child will lead them” (Isaiah 11:6). Isaiah offers a surprising vision of hope: a peaceful world shaped not by power or domination, but by imagination, trust, and the guidance of a child. This invites us not only to protect children, but to learn from them — from their openness, their joy, and their instinctive sense of fairness.
The campaign highlights that children are both vulnerable and powerful. They play, imagine, question what is unjust, and show courage and compassion in ways adults sometimes forget. Their perspective reminds us that safety is a right, not a privilege, and that communities can change when people act with empathy. The chosen campaign image — a drawing by a seven-year-old — expresses this message with honesty and movement. It symbolises that children are not objects of concern, but subjects with voice, dignity, and wisdom.
Across the UEM communion, many children face serious risks such as child labour, sexualised violence, discrimination, exclusion, and the effects of climate injustice. Yet they also show remarkable resilience, building friendships, comforting others, and imagining a better world. Their voices reveal truths that demand a response grounded in human rights. Therefore, the campaign focuses on two inseparable commitments: protection and participation. It calls for child-friendly churches, safer communities, strong safeguarding structures, and cultures where children are heard, respected, and empowered. To “follow the child,” as Isaiah suggests, is to take children’s perspectives seriously in theology, advocacy, and daily life.
Throughout 2026, the campaign will unfold through global and regional activities, children’s art and stories, advocacy actions, safeguarding training, and intergenerational dialogue. The vision is clear: when children lead us, power is redefined, fear loses its grip, and a more compassionate world becomes possible
As in every year, we invite churches and communities with the Campaign Poster and additional information to participate in this campaign. Please support our projects to defend Human Rights: Here you can donate online.

The Right to a Secure Home is part of the Human Rights Convention of the United Nations. But it doesn't just mean security and comfort, but also dignity and the chance to a fulfilled life. From our Christian perspective, this is something all people deserve.
Still people are clinging on to a heart that carries them out of the razor wire, hoping for rescue and justice. This time, the Bible verse on the poster isn't directed to God, but to us humans. Through the Prophet Isaiah, God calls us: "Keep what is Right, and do Justice!" (Isaiah 56,1)
"Deliver me from the hand of mine enemies and from them that persecute me!". This cry of distress from Psalm 31:15 is the title of this year's UEM Human Rights Action. As a communion of churches, we see it as our duty to stand by people who have become victims of injustice and violence.
