  • Pastor (m/f) in Herford (Germany)

    Pastor (m/f)

    In the framework of the South-North Personnel Exchange of the UEM the Church District of Herford and the Evangelical Church of Westphalia are looking forward to a female or male pastor of the Protestant Church in Indonesia who is willing to live and to work in Germany. The Church District of Herford maintains an enduring lively partnership to the Karo Batak Protestant Church (GBKP).

    The expected start of this period will be in the second half of 2018.

    The appointment will be for a period of three years, with the possibility of extension.

    Your tasks:

    • participation and cooperation in a church parish
    • work in the congregation with worship services and parish groups
    • accompanying and supporting the church partnerships to Indonesia and cooperation in the fields of mission and ecumenical affairs
    • Arrangements and implementation of Projects with children, youth and adults
    • participate and work together in different church committees, sessions and partnership committees

    Your qualifications:

    • theological qualification
    • parish work experience
    • ecumenical and international experience
    • working in a team

    For it is highly important to a pastor communicating in German language we expect that the elected candidate will start a language course already in Indonesia. At the beginning of the period in Germany there will be an intensive language course for six months in an ecumenical college ending with a final exam.

  • Medical Doctor / Health worker on Mentawai island, Indonesia

    The United Evangelical Mission (UEM) is an international communion of 35 churches in Africa, Asia and Germany, and Bethel. The UEM members support each other in facing present day missionary challenges, among others through the exchange of personnel and sharing of resources.

    On behalf of our member church, the Protestant Christian Church in Mentawai (GKPM) in Indonesia we are looking for a

     Medical Doctor / Health worker

    Mission work on Mentawai islands (West Sumatra) was started in 1901 by the Rhenisch Mission. The GKPM was founded 1978. Today the church has 26.500 members and employs 23 pastors and ten assistant pastors/evangelists. On Mentawai islands 80% of the population is Christian (mainly protestant).

    The islands of Mentawai are very isolated from the rest of Sumatra and medical services are underdeveloped. Many people are suffering from malnutrition and other sickness caused by poor basic health care. However there are signs of hope: Buildings are currently under construction, presently a doctor from the U.S. helps in the GKPM clinic in Nemnemleleu.

    In order to face these challenges the UEM, on behalf of the GKPM, searches a qualified, experienced and committed medical doctor or heath worker for GKPM´s polyclinic in Nemmemleleu. GKPM expects the UEM co-worker to contribute to the restructuring of the health care system and in the revitalization of the medical services as well as to develop and implement a structure for a community based health care in the congregations.

    The following qualifications are needed:

    • Degree in medicine and permit to practise in Indonesia
    • Readiness to serve in the societies in the field of health care
    • Counselling skills
    • Professional experience of some years
    • Ecumenical and international experience
    • Mother tongue: Bahasa Indonesia, good English language skills
    • Member of a Christian church

    The appointment will be for a period of three years with the possibility of extension.

  • Theological Lecturer (Sri Lanka)

    The United Evangelical Mission (UEM) is an international communion of 35 churches in Africa, Asia and Germany, and Bethel. The UEM members support each other in facing present day missionary challenges, among others through the exchange of personnel and sharing of resources.

    On behalf of the Methodist Church of Sri Lanka we are looking for a

    Theological Lecturer

    The Methodist Church in Sri Lanka, together with other Protestant churches, jointly having  a theological training centre in Pilimatalawa (near Kandy) www.tclsl.org. This was founded in 1963 by the Methodist, Baptist, Anglican and Presbyterian Churches in Sri Lanka, for the basic, further and advanced training of their pastors. The vast majority of Sri Lanka’s pastors are trained in the above-mentioned institution. For this reason, the Methodist Church is requesting the assignment of an ordained theologian holding a Master or PhD in theology in order to teach Old Testament or, New Testament or Theology of Religions.

    We are seeking a person, who, alongside theological qualifications, also has parish work experience. He or she should have an excellent command of English.

    Our member church expects employees to be prepared to work in an internationally composed staff and to integrate into the work and life of the parishes and church in Sri Lanka.

    The appointment will be for a period of three years, with the possibility of extension.
