  • Medical Doctor / Health worker on Mentawai island, Indonesia

The United Evangelical Mission (UEM) is an international communion of 35 churches in Africa, Asia and Germany, and Bethel. The UEM members support each other in facing present day missionary challenges, among others through the exchange of personnel and sharing of resources.

On behalf of our member church, the Protestant Christian Church in Mentawai (GKPM) in Indonesia we are looking for a

    Medical Doctor / Health worker

Mission work on Mentawai islands (West Sumatra) was started in 1901 by the Rhenisch Mission. The GKPM was founded 1978. Today the church has 26.500 members and employs 23 pastors and ten assistant pastors/evangelists. On Mentawai islands 80% of the population is Christian (mainly protestant).

The islands of Mentawai are very isolated from the rest of Sumatra and medical services are underdeveloped. Many people are suffering from malnutrition and other sickness caused by poor basic health care. However there are signs of hope: Buildings are currently under construction, presently a doctor from the U.S. helps in the GKPM clinic in Nemnemleleu.

In order to face these challenges the UEM, on behalf of the GKPM, searches a qualified, experienced and committed medical doctor or heath worker for GKPM´s polyclinic in Nemmemleleu. GKPM expects the UEM co-worker to contribute to the restructuring of the health care system and in the revitalization of the medical services as well as to develop and implement a structure for a community based health care in the congregations.

    The following qualifications are needed:

    • Degree in medicine and permit to practise in Indonesia
    • Readiness to serve in the societies in the field of health care
    • Counselling skills
    • Professional experience of some years
    • Ecumenical and international experience
    • Mother tongue: Bahasa Indonesia, good English language skills
    • Member of a Christian church

The appointment will be for a period of three years with the possibility of extension.

Please send your application letter with CV via Email to Mrs. Christina Bergmann, personal[at]vemission.org.
