Yesterday, the kick-off for the 19th German Protestant Church Congress (Kirchentag) was in Dortmund. With its 72 square metre stand in hall 4, UEM is strikingly sporty. Under the football motto "You'll never walk alone", friends and guests of the international missionary organisation meet on the green lawn of the UEM arena until Saturday. In addition to the 13 player figures representing the 12 UEM countries and this year's human rights campaign for fair textiles, a three metre long 12-person table kicker is the attraction at the stand. From 10.30 to 18.30, the teams, which are mixed in every respect, will kick against and with each other. The entertaining matches can be watched from the three-storey grandstand.
The EMW cooperation stand and the Tanzania Network Café are located directly opposite the UEM arena. Both stands offer the opportunity to rest and pause. Those interested in the "Weltwärts" programme can inform themselves in hall 6 at the stand of the missionary youth volunteer services.
A highlight of yesterday's first day was undoubtedly the reception of the mission organizations, to which the UEM had invited the German Football Museum at Dortmund Central Station. More than 300 guests came to exchange ideas in a convivial atmosphere. The UEM Secretary General, Volker Martin Dally, welcomed the former UEM Moderator, Bishop Zephania Kameeta, as the special guest of the evening. Under the motto of the Kirchentag "What a trust" Kameeta, who today belongs to the government in Namibia as Minister for Poverty Eradication, told about his career within UEM between 2000 and 2008: "The UEM shows here and today what it really is. With so many young faces, it has a great future. There are only a few mission agencies that manage to bring together so many different people from so many different countries and persuade them to do things together. Let us be thankful that we have a God we can trust," said the theologian from Namibia.
The evening was accompanied by music from the choirs Exaudia from Jarkarta (Indonesia), Colorful Grace from Wuppertal and the international UEM choir of young adults.
