"It definitely strengthens team spirit to do a project like this." Ralf Nix, Team Leader House and Ground at the UEM in Wuppertal, is visibly proud of the new bicycle house.
Climate protection is particularly important for the UEM. Not least because the three regions of the UEM (Asia, Africa and Germany) contribute differently to global CO2 emissions. That is why the UEM is taking concrete first steps towards a climate-neutral future:
18 new, under-roof parking spaces for bicycles, e-bikes and pedelecs are now available to staff and guests at the Mission House. This supports a climate-friendly way to get to work, which is often not only cheap but also healthy.
Four tonnes of concrete, almost a tonne of wood and 100 metres of cable were used by the House and Ground team at the parking lot in Wuppertal. Ralf Nix, Bouba Koita, Daniel Wasono and Gangolf Nießen created a unique piece: Since there was no suitable modular kit available, they converted the parts of a carport and adapted them for UEM's needs.
Timo Pauler, UEM Executive Secretary Finance and Administration, says: "I am very happy that our House and Ground team has built the bicycle house in their own effort and thus not only provides 18 bicycles with a dry and safe place to park them, but also contributes valuably to climate protection."
We would like to thank the House and Ground team and wish everyone who will soon be cycling to work a safe and enjoyable ride.
