Issue 3/2024: Taking Decisions - Why Diversity Matters To Us
Starting in 1996 as an international Communion of Churches, UEM has made significant steps in the last years: How do we take decisions? What makes a diverse structure? And what are we still working on?
The Mission Sparks 14th edition is brought to you with the theme “The Beam in Our Eye: Church, State, Democracy and Discrimination.” This theme is taken based on the theme of UEM general assembly 2022: “The Beam in our Eye: Discrimination in Church and Diaconia (Matthew 7:3)” which will be the main theme within the UEM family until the next UEM general assembly.
Mission Echo - December 2024
In the new MISSION ECHO we introduce joint programs implemented by the UEM Africa region, some events from churches and organizations and articles on academic work. Apart from the Volunteers' topic on the front page, the induction of the new Presiding Bishop of ELCT is a particularly interesting article.
Sarah Vecera's book, "Wie ist Jesus weiß geworden? Mein Traum von einer Kirche ohne Rassismus" (ISBN: 978-3-8436-1352-1), addresses the presence of racist structures within the church that often go unnoticed by white individuals. She highlights these issues and offers guidance on how each person can contribute to creating a church where individuals of all skin colors, backgrounds, and identities feel welcome and accepted. The book is available for purchase through various retailers in Germany.
The church must take its responsibility for their protection more seriously than it has in the past. It must place itself at the center of accountability for everything that poses a threat to those who live, love, pray, and work within the church. People of Color are part of the church, yet their lived realities—shaped by structural, institutional, and individual discrimination—have largely been overlooked.
The Bible is diverse—just like the people it tells us about! The 21 selected Bible stories are retold by Andrea Karimé with sensitivity to racism and diversity, in a heartfelt and poetic, lively, and child-friendly manner. The lovingly crafted illustrations by Anna Lisicki-Hehn depict heroes and heroines with whom young readers from different backgrounds and experiences can identify.
The book is available for purchase.

As a mission society, we naturally share God's passion with people and carry His message forward. In doing so, a respectful approach to other religions is a matter of course for us. We advocate for religious freedom and peace between religions.
.
Our goal with this book is to initiate an ongoing discourse on ethical standards in the international recruitment of nursing staff and, in doing so, to contribute one of the central core competencies of the UEM, a fellowship of churches: an interculturally reflected perspective!
Discover with us the meaning and essence of Christian celebrations, especially now! We remember the one who says about himself, "I am the life." Even more: "I have come to give life—life in all its fullness." (cf. John 10:10 | Good News Bible).
As every year, we invite churches and congregations to participate in our human rights campaign. We provide an action poster and materials for the campaign.
for church services, confirmation classes, and school lessons on various topics.
