[Translate to Englisch:] Flüchtlingslager im Kongo 2008: Auch lange nach Ende des Bürgerkriegs in Ruanda und bis heute verbreiten Rebellengruppen im Ost-Kongo Angst und Schrecken.
The UEM, together with the other members of the Ecumenical Network Central Africa (OENZ) welcomes the start of the court proceedings against the presumed Rwandan war criminals Ignace Murwanashyaka and Straton Musoni, taking place in Stuttgart/Germany. For the first time in Germany the Code of Crimes Against International
Law is used. The political executives of the FDLR (Force Démocratiques de la Républic du Rwanda) face charges of being responsible for crimes against humanity and war crimes in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
OENZ calls for a adequate sentence
The OENZ calls for a adequate sentence. „We need equal legal steps against other people living in Europe, who were responsible of the crimes committed by the FDLR“, Ilona Auer-Frege demands, the coordinator of the OENZ. In 2009 the OENZ had published a
study (in German language) about the was crimes committed by Ignace Muwanashyaka and his militia, which helped the prosecution preparing the charges. The OENZ is a network of Christian aid organisations for peace and human rights in Rwanda, Burundi and the DR Congo. Members are Misereor, Bread for the World, Pax Christi, Diakonie Human Rights and the United Evangelical Mission (UEM).
