As Indonesia's Mount Sinabung erupted again a few days ago, the local residents are alarmed again. On Monday the vulcano, which has been active since 2010, spewed a giant 8-Kilometer ash cloud. Thousands had to be evacuated after the volcano erupted for the third time within a few months. Mostly the local peoples are Gereja Batak Karo Protestan (GBKP) congregations, one of UEM member Churches in North Sumatra. GBKP provides help for refugees in local church buildings. The emergency relief efforts are coordinated by Augustinus Purba, who finished his studies on diaconical management just this April in Bethel/Germany. What really impresses is the fact, that GBKP provided UEM with even further financial aid for the emergency relief work of UCCP on the Philippines, where the biggest typhoon ever brought chaos and destruction.
