In a
press release the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Namibia (ELCRN) informed about the recent ordinary national synod from 25 to 29 August under the leadership of Bishop Ernest //Gamxamub in Mariental. The motto of the synod, which is the highest decision-making body of the church, was: "Being the salt of the earth, together for reconciliation, unity and peace".
In addition to structural issues, the agenda also included the counting of the ballot papers and the appointment of a new bishop of the ELCRN and his deputy. As a result of the electoral process already carried out in March this year, Pastor Sageus /Keib qualified for the Bishop office with the most votes cast. In future Bishop Pastor Abraham //Kheibeb will function as his deputy. After an amendment of the church constitution the church members of the ELCRN were allowed for the first time to directly elect the candidates for the office of Bishop and deputy Bishop.
The new church leadership will be introduced on Sunday, 3 November 2019 in Okahandja. Martina Pauly
