At the World Council of Churches Assembly in Karlsruhe, Germany, where more than 3,500 delegates and visitors from all parts of the world will gather from Aug. 30 - Sept. 8, 2022, the World Council of Churches (WCC), the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD) and the United Evangelical Mission (UEM) launched the publication "Strenghtening Christian Perspectves on Human Dignity and Human Rights" on Sept. 2 at the WCC booth.
The book features contributions by authors from all world regions and confessional families, identifying biblical-theological roots of Christian commitment to human dignity and human rights and identifying perspectives on victimhood.
In a joint statement, the authors call on the churches in the World Council to stand up for the many victims of human rights violations worldwide on the basis of universal human rights and to strengthen global mechanisms and agreements for human rights and accountability, which are now more than ever under pressure.
For UEM, Dr. Jochen Motte and Dr. Andar Parlindungan actively accompanied the process. Contributions from representatives of the UEM community from Africa, Asia and Germany are published in the 500+ page publication.
The WCC referred in its list of references to the publication as a basis for its deliberations to all delegates of the assembly. In an ecumenocal conversation, the study process was presented to delegates of the assembly.
