World AIDS Day has been held every year on December 1 for more than 30 years. Numerous events and campaigns are held on this day as a sign of solidarity with people living with HIV and AIDS.
During his morning service, UEM General Secretary Volker Dally reminded the audience of the importance of this day. Despite all the successes, exclusion and discrimination are still a major problem for people living with HIV infection. An estimated 90,700 people were living with HIV/AIDS last year in Germany alone.
"90,700" is also the title of a traveling exhibition by the AIDS aid in the city of Bonn, Germany, which is being shown by the Wuppertal working group for the World AIDS Day. From December 12 until the end of the year, it will also be on display in the foyer of the UEM Mission House.
Under the motto "Living with HIV - different from what you think", the World AIDS Day working groups in the cities of Wuppertal and Remscheid are drawing attention to the issue through further events and campaigns.
The employees of the VEM also show their solidarity by wearing the red ribbon on World AIDS Day.
You can find the entire program (in German language) on the Website of the AIDS-aid Wuppertal.
