In addition to the 20,000 euros already approved by the UEM, the Rhenish and Westphalian churches and the Evangelical Church of Kurhessen-Waldeck at the beginning of December 2021, the UEM is now providing a further 7,000 euros. The funds will be used to provide the necessary hygiene, water, food and health care for the local victims of the volcanic eruption.
The Christian Church in East Java (GKJW) had started humanitarian aid and reconstruction measures immediately after the eruption of the Semeru volcano. Logistics centres and public kitchens were set up together with Muslim communities and organisations. The GKJW organised volunteers from the city of Malang to help the victims. They distributed food and tents from Malang city.
