"Peace Building & Human Rights Protection - this is the topic of the third UEM Summer School. 35 representatives of religious communities and churches from 19 countries will take part in the online training from 23 August to 30 October. The aim is to "strengthen and network those who work for peace and justice at the risk of their own lives," says Dr Jochen Motte, member of the UEM Executive Board and responsible for the UEM's peace and human rights programmes.

"At a time when human rights violations are being committed in the name of counter-terrorism or national security, when the news is full of stories of racial injustice, it is time to bring together those working for human rights to share ideas, inspire and empower each other," says Pastor Lusungu Mbilinyi. The Tanzanian is Coordinator for Global Learning in Ecumenical Perspective at the UEM and has experience in the field of inter-religious conflicts, especially in Zanzibar. Along with Beate Roggenbuck from Germany, an expert in mediation processes, and Pastor Sujithar Sivanayagam from Sri Lanka, who works for reconciliation between different ethnic groups in his country, Lusungu Mbilinyi is part of the intercultural planning team for the online seminar.
