12 students of the International Master's Course in Diaconal Management of the United Evangelical Mission (UEM) will finish their study block in Germany on October 7, 2022.
At the beginning of their fourth study block in June this year, the participants spent a week visiting diaconal institutions in Wuppertal and Bielefeld-Bethel. In the process, they learned about and analyzed their diaconal concepts and contexts. This fieldwork was followed by three weeks of academic reflection and thematic teaching units on economics, management, and value-driven entrepreneurship at the Institute for Diaconal Science and Management (IDWM) at Bielefeld University. IDWM is the academic partner for the German region of the international UEM study program.
The 12 students, who come from Togo, Indonesia, Ghana, Rwanda, Tanzania and DR Congo, had completed their third block of studies at Stellenbosch University in South Africa in May this year. A final block is scheduled for January 2023 at Silliman University in Dumaguete, Philippines. The first two blocks of study were conducted online.
This master's program is offered since 2011 and is unique due to its consistent interculturality in terms of students, faculty, and study locations. In addition, the program is characterized by its interdisciplinarity of leadership, management and diaconal theology.
The close connection between practice and theory in changing intercultural contexts enables the teaching of academically ambitious and practice-oriented competence.
