More than 200 guests from Wuppertal, from the Rhineland and from various other member churches of the United Evangelical Mission celebrated the inauguration of the new International Evangelical Conference "On the Holy Mountain" in Wuppertal, Germany. The president (Präses) of the Rhenish Church, Manfred Rekowski, and UEM General Secretary Dr Fidon Mwombeki, put together a ribbon as a sign for the joint efforts in setting up the new centre.
Living spirituality
"Auf Dem Heiligen Berg" (On The Holy Mountain) – the name of the new centre which is also the name for the whole hill came from the citizens of Wuppertal, Dr Mwombeki explained the guests. But it is not only a name: With the church owned college, the theological centre of the Rhenish Church and the UEM's Centre for Mission and Leadership Studies (CMLS) spirituality is living in this place. The general secretary reminded of the history of the 99 year old building: The work of the Rhenish Mission was rooted in this place and therefore is so important not only for Wuppertal but for all member churches of the UEM.
Signals for the world
The vice president of the Rhenish Church, Petra Bosse-Huber, stressed the importance of the new conference centre for the church: "This place sends out signals for our congregations, for our church circuits and for the world."
