The UEM General Secretary Rev Dr Andar Parlindungan participated at a workshop with the EEC leadership and the 22 EEC Regional Presidents in Douala. He underlined the fundamental necessity of a peaceful local cohabitation, peace among nations and keeping of the Christian identity. In the small town of Mora, the bilingual elementary school plays an important role for the local communion. And it is supported by the international UEM communion.
Together for Education
The EEC President, the Rev Billa Mbenga Alexandre, concludes: “In all EEC church thanksgiving services, the whole Mora community in North Cameroon prayed and expressed a deep gratitude to UEM and EEC supporters for that human, useful, wonderful and surprising gift”. This way, UEM and its members stand together in all three regions: Asia, Africa and Germany.
After weeks of thunderstorms and financial difficulties, the school was working on several challenges. Among them were rebuilding the school roofs as well as acquisition of new tables, benches and books specialized in preparing for lessons.
“Thanks to a UEM support in 2023, these challenges are now things from the past: the school has a nicer look than before”, says the School Director. She has been working closely with EEC staff to coordinate the project.
Local Projects, Quickly Implemented
Cooperating with EEC and UEM, the school has now replaced the damaged roofs and fixed protective iron bars onto class windows. A local carpenter from the neighbor town of Maroua supplied the school with tables and benches, in order to cater for the bench shortage that used to keep the pupils busy. 50 brand new benches have been acquired and improved school working conditions: 20 benches for the Elementary class 1, 20 benches for the Elementary class 2 and 10 benches for the Preparatory class. The school acquired bibles, exercise books and a dictionary, so that the teachers can now prepare their lessons according to their plans. UEM General Secretary Parlindungan is happy about the outcome: “The EEC Mora school project is a testimony how the local congregations quickly implement UEM supported projects to better help the population who are the same time direct and indirect victims of the manmade and natural crisis. UEM members pray and hope that such disasters stop in the world. ”
