The African Regional Assembly (AfRA) of the UEM is going to further strengthen the programmes for the protection of children in the coming years. The delegates passed a corresponding resolution on their meeting in Bukoba, Tansania. In addition to a regional exchange of definite projects, binding guidelines are to be worked out that shall contribute to the protection of children in all churches.
PROTECTION OF THE ENVIRONMENT
Furthermore the churches want to support peaceful solutions of violent conflicts and educate mediators who can mediate in conflicts. Additionally a number of church delegates from nearly all represented countries emphasised the urgency to counter the climate change. All churches want to participate in the protection of the environment by practical actions and public awareness.
PROTECTING ENDANGERED GROUPS
Having a Bible study about the “Good Samaritan” in mind representatives of the American churches called up for especially focussing on the protection of exceptionally endangered groups, minorities and segregated people as e.g. albinos in Tansania or indigenous groups in Botswana. HIV/Aids will remain a central theme in the coming years, too. The Regional Assembly calls up all churches to take part in the World Aids Day on December 1st.
