Church President in Kinshasa calls for peaceful elections

The Church of Christ in Congo (ECC) celebrated last Saturday its 140 years of jubilee in the DR Congo. During the thanksgiving service at the Tata Raphaël stadium "Forum des AS" reported that Pastor André Bokundoa expressed his concern about the electoral process over a number of issues that are troubling: the voting machine, the electoral register, logistics and election financing.

Further national newspapers report that the head of the Protestant church in Kinshasa also adressed to the political class and called for unity for a peaceful electoral process. Pastor Bokundoa recommended that political actors shall give priority to dialogue and mutual understanding as a way out of any crisis. In his preaching the pastor also welcomed the fact that Joseph Kabila did not run for another term.

The ECC is one of the largest church groups in DR Congo. It brings together more than 60 Protestant and evangelical communities. It includes Lutheran, Anglican Reformed, Mennonite, Methodist, Baptist and Pentecostal churches.
