“What I like about this position is that it offers variety and diversity”: Damaris Halbach is delighted about her new role as Assistant Finance & Administration. She started at the United Evangelical Mission (UEM) in Wuppertal mid-September. “Here I can easily get in touch with people. I also enjoy working for a Christian organisation because I share its values,” says the 36-year-old.
Shared interests
She already knew about the UEM through the work of Sarah Vecera, Senior Coordinator for Global Education, specialising in Racism and the Church. Halbach is interested in anti-racism: “That is an important concern for me personally,” she says.
Raised in Wuppertal-Ronsdorf, she first trained as a bank clerk and then studied ethnology and educational sciences. Later she worked at the Municipal Integration Centre of the City of Wuppertal (Germany).
From the volunteer programme to executive management
Until the end of 2025 Halbach will be involved in the UEM volunteer programme, taking on temporary administrative responsibilities. From 2026 she will then move to the position of Assistant Finance & Administration. Her predecessor Meike Freyth will retire at the end of this year.
Speaking about her new tasks at the UEM, Halbach says: “They include communication with banks and government authorities, travel planning, administrating meetings and scheduling. I also prepare applications and ensure that the UEM is correctly registered in official government records.”
In her free time she sings and plays the cross flute: “Recently we had a concert with music by Saint-Saëns, Brahms and film music from James Bond.”
We wish Damaris Halbach all the best and God’s blessings for her new position at UEM.
