Evangelical Church in Cameroon inaugurates new church building

The Nlongkak parish of the Evangelical Church in Cameroon (EEC) in the capital city Yaoundé inaugurated on Sunday 24th of July EEC’s largest church building with about 2.500 places. The ceremony was attended by joyful EEC church leaders, about six Ministers of the current Government, three former ministers and many singing people making it an estimated 5.000 people. International guests came from the All Africa Conference of Churches (AACC) and the United Evangelical Mission (UEM). The EEC has about three million members, 563 parishes and 695 Pastors and Catechists. They have all put together their human and financial resources to build a temple worth about one million Euros. There was no other external support but the UEM training contributed to shaping their vision and strategies. "The EEC learnt that we should not give up in front of obstacles", said the Church President, Rev. Isaac Batome Henga. Different sacrifices have been acknowledged: church members in different social categories, elders, church engineers giving voluntary work and ultimately the sacrifice of Jesus Christ who paid life for all of us.” The building has annexed large rooms where the church will reach out to people in the areas of Evangelization, Diaconia and will conduct trainings on holistic work. It will also be a place for counselling those who are affected by human rights abuses. This temple is a place to welcome all hurt people where they will come to seek and work together for healing. "The UEM is grateful to the EEC ‎members as they joined their efforts and became a solution to their problems. This is a concrete example of the United Action promoted by the UEM. In Africa if we continue to work together, in the same way we will be able to support more social projects, scholarship programmes and attract more people in and to our churches." said the UEM Executive Secretary for Africa, Rev. John Wesley Kabango‎ who preached during the service. In the next two weeks delegates from the UEM member churches are meeting for workshops to be trained by the UEM staff and externals how to deal with disasters, on project cycle management and improving internal fundraising skills. The workshops will be conducted in Buea and Douala.
