On the international womens day celebrated each year on March 8, UEM attracts attention to the present situation of women in New Guinea (Papua New Guinea, PNG) and in West Papua (Indonesia). The exposition „Dangerous Places for Women: Gender Violence in Papua New Guinea und West Papua (Indonesia)“ was created by students from the German 'Asien Afrika Institut' of the University Hamburg together with the 'Pazifik-Netzwerk'. Norman Voß from the West Papua Network brought the exposition to UEM in spring 2018. The exposition shows cases of extreme violence against women emphazising that in New Guinea the fight for autonomy, the well-being of women and the democratization of the gender relationship is not yet over. The examples make visible the suffering of women and at the same time intend to promote the rights of women globally and in this part of the world. The exposition can be visited until March 16, on the third floor of the UEM mission house in Wuppertal (Germany). You are welcome! Irene Girsang, UEM officer for interregional women programs
