On 12 September, Jean-Gottfried Mutombo was solemnly installed as regional pastor in the Office for World Mission, Ecumenism and Church World Responsibility (MÖWe) of the Evangelical Church of Westphalia (EKvW). The doctor of theology, who comes from the Church of Christ in Congo, came to Germany with his family at the beginning of 2002. For six years he worked as a staff member in the "Ökumenische Werkstatt Bethel" of the UEM in Bielefeld. Within the German Region of the UEM he has given important spiritual impulses: Together with German colleagues, for example, he introduced anointing and blessing services. After a four-year interim stay in Congo, he and his family came to the Westphalian church in 2012 as part of the UEM personnel exchange programme and stayed.

Mutombo was already appointed last year by the EKvW to the regional pastorate for the Münsterland and Hellweg regions. Here he accompanies the five church districts of Unna, Hamm, Münster, Steinfurt-Coesfeld-Borken and Tecklenburg. And he advises them on issues such as ecumenism, partnerships, justice, peace and the integrity of creation, as well as on intercultural issues.

The responsible ecumenical department head of the Evangelical Church of Westphalia and UEM Vice-Moderator, Oberkirchenrat Dr Ulrich Möller, had officially introduced Mutombo into his office. Due to the Corona pandemic, the installation service in the Evangelical Church on the Market in Holzwickede near Unna could only be celebrated last Sunday.
