Those, who bring the gospel to the world, should not feel guilty about what they do. UEM General Secretary Dr. Fidon Mwombeki adressed this clear message to the synod of the Evangelical Church of Westphalia. Many peoples regard the coming of gospel as the beginning of freedom. Mwombeki reminded the delegates of the celebrations on occasion of 150 years of Batak mission, which were attended by several ten thousand Christians. "In Batakland people still talk about the Rhenisch Mission", Dr Mwombeki said. "i had to think about all the criticism and negative attitude towards mission in Europe. Do the critics think, the 20.000 people who gathered in Tarutung and the 50.000 who met in Medan are ignorant and naive and do not know what they do? I wish the critics came and visited these people, who regard the coming of gospel as a relief." "These people were freed from the enslaving traditions and beliefs. Now they live as free human beings with their heads held high. The get modern education and better health care. They overcame the oppression of women to a large extent. They respect people with disabilities, who previously were believed to be cursed. For these reasons we should not feel guilty for having spread and spreading the gospel. How we do it, that depends on the people, their living conditions, their culture and other factors. We however thank the Lord for the gospel."
