In Namibia the families affected by the drought are getting help: The UEM and its member churches supported the Evangelical-Lutheran Church in the Republic of Namibia (ELCRN) with € 40,000. It is now paid out to the affected people, accompanied by consultancy how to spend it in a sustainable way. More than 800,000 of the 2,1 million Namibians were hit by the worst drought in 30 years. Most of them do not have access to sufficient amounts of water and food. The death of their lifestock intensifies the problem. The region of Amperto, 300 kilometers from the capital Windhoek, was worst affected - its 5,000 inhabitants were the first to get access to the aid. The families are paid in the form of cash grants - in co-operation with the Namibian post service NamPost. The measures are coordinated with the Namibian government and the Lutheran World Federation (LWF).
