"So strangers become friends"

Four participants each from Africa, Asia and Europe will work together on current issues of global refugee and migration policy from 4 to 17 November in Wuppertal. The programme also includes keynote lectures by representatives of Amnesty International Cologne and Diakonie Rheinland, Westfalen and Lippe. In addition, the participants will have the opportunity to get to know the work of refugees in church institutions first hand during internships lasting several days.

In many UEM member churches in Africa, Asia and Germany migration is a much discussed topic. While numerous African and Asian member churches have many years of experience in refugee work, German member churches face new challenges with the current refugee movements. The Partnership Workshop brings together international experts in migration and refugee work and serves as an exchange of experience and the development of new ideas. In addition, new forms of international church partnerships are to emerge. The project will take place in two phases. The workshop in Germany is project phase I, while project phase II will take place in Rwanda from 1 to 14 July 2019.

The circle of participants includes: Claudia Latzel-Binder (EKvW, Germany), Karin Eckei (EKvW, Germany), Fabien Dushimirimana (EKiR, Germany), Monica Natali (Waldensian Church, Italy), Anastase Mashyaka (EAR, Rwanda), Daniel Dushimimana (EPR, Rwanda), Ezechiel Kathege (CBCA, DR Congo), Polisi Kivava (CBCA, DR Congo), Elson Lingga (GKPPD, Indonesia), Agustinus Purba (GBKP, Indonesia), Riza Salas (UCCP, Philippines), Silvester Satkunanayagam (MC-SL, Sri Lanka).

The workshop is coordinated by the partnership officers of UEM: Lena Wallraff, Kristin Neubauer and Uli Baege.
