19 students of the Wilhem-Dörpfeld High School (WDG) in Wuppertal visited the mission house of the United Evangelical Mission (UEM) in Wuppertal-Barmen together with their headmaster, OStD Claudia Schweizer-Motte, and the student council liaison teacher, Susanne Giskes. The purpose of the visit was to hand over a donation of 2,028.45 Euros, which is intended for the partner school SMK Tarunatama Getasan on the Indonesian island of Java.
On 15 May this year, 800 pupils from the high school took part in the annual charity run in the public garden "Stadthallengarten". The donations are then divided into thirds - a long-standing school tradition: one third of the money stays at the school, one third is donated to a local Wuppertal organisation and one third is used to support an international project. This year, the school therefore decided to give the money to the Wuppertal association "unsichtbar e.V.", a homeless aid organisation and to the partner school in Indonesia.
In 2017, students from the Wuppertal high school visited the protestant school SMK Tarunatama Getasan on Java, which also includes a further education centre. The school partnership was arranged by the UEM, which has a total of 17 member churches in the Asia region. The head of the UEM Asia Region, Dr Dyah Krismawati, introduced the Indonesian school and training institution to the students of the WDG.
