The United Evangelical Mission (UEM) has joined the "Transparent Civil Society Initiative" (in German abbreviated to ITZ) in October 2023. Members of the initiative are committed to making relevant information easily accessible to the general public. This includes the constitution, the names of key leaders, information on the origin and use of funds and personnel structure. The aim of this transparency campaign is for example to make the organisation's own work understandable for donors in order to strengthen its credibility and trustworthiness. ITZ membership is a voluntary commitment.
"Transparency has always been the key to success for us as UEM, because transparency builds trust! We want the supporters of the UEM to understand how we work, how we use our resources and what we achieve in the end. It was therefore long overdue for us to join the Transparent Civil Society Initiative, which we have now done," explains Timo Pauler, Executive Secretary Finance and Administration of the UEM.
The ITZ was launched in 2010 at the suggestion of Transparency International Germany. Numerous actors from civil society and academia were involved in defining the basic principles of the initiative, such as integrity, accountability and transparency, which every ITZ member must credibly demonstrate. The initiative is recognised as a non-profit organisation and is politically independent. Up to now, around 1840 civil society organisations have joined the ITZ.
