She knows United Evangelical Mission (UEM) from the perspective of an external trainer – now she decided to join the organization: Ms. Phyllis Fuseini is the new Assistant for Global Programs at UEM.
Freelance Diversity Management
The 38 years old from Wuppertal got to know UEM a couple of years ago as a trainer in Antiracism. She had been engaged to facilitate a workshop for the volunteers: “And there I approached the organization a bit hesitant, you see, coming from my antiracist perspective. Because I didn’t know: How is it going to be? And then I got to know a bunch of super reflected young adults, who were just amazing!” This experience made some things come loose and opened her up for church work – “and now I’m here!”
Fuseini comes from a multi religious household: “My Mother is a Christian, my Father is a Muslim. We sometimes lived this way, then again that way. So, I wouldn’t say I’m only this or only that, but more like: both.” And to be honest, she adds, she feels at home in both worlds.
At first she started studying industrial management in global markets, but soon changed career paths to become a businesswoman in food retailing. Some steps in business followed. After a degree in Diversity Management, she long worked as a freelancer, facilitating workshops in Antiracism. Her last step was to work as an assistant in a company specializing in ambulance flights. At UEM, organizing flights will most likely be a lot more relaxed, she says: “Because here, no patient’s life will depend on us getting them the next flight immediately.”
Organizing, supporting, planning
In the division Global Programs, headed by Rev Félicité Ngnintedem, Fuseini works in the departments of Advocacy, Global Education, and Training & Empowerment. Generally, her new position is very much shaped by being in contact with people.
She is especially looking forward to work and exchange with people of different origins and nationalities: Organizing activities together, providing support, but also planning the content of an event. “Many things I loved to do before come together here and I can connect all of it.”
In her free time, Fuseini visits events like the Swane Café by Selly Wane, devotes herself to the arts – and sees her son to his Basketball Games: “Because he set himself the goal to become an NBA player, or to join the police. So I will keep my fingers crossed until he gets into the NBA.”
We warmly welcome Phyllis Fuseini at UEM and wish her all the best and every blessing for her tasks ahead.
