The media attention to Goma and the surrounding regions of Eastern Congo is often limited to stories about civil war. But after years of violent conflicts and still with very few state aid, people rebuilt their country with great dedication. The Baptist Church in Central Africa (CBCA), a member church of UEM, supports these efforts with many programmes, e.g. reconciliation projects or church-run hospitals. The CBCA now invited the UEM council to hold its meeting from March 6th to 9th in Goma. „We are glad and happy to accept this invitation", Regine Buschmann says, the UEM moderator. "May our presence be a sign of appreciation for the highly important work of our member church in this war-ridden country." In its meeting the UEM council will prepare the General Assembly, which will be held in Berastagi/Indoesia in October 2012. Following the meeting, the two new Executive Secretaries for Africa, John Wesley Kabango, and for Germany, Angelika Veddeler, will be officially inducted. The Council members will also visit projects run by the CBCA.
