150 million people worldwide are homeless, including many families with children. They do not have a place where they can experience love, care and security. This applies to children and young people in Africa, Asia and also in Germany. Our member churches create spaces for children where their rights are respected and their dignity is preserved.
A safe home not only means having a roof over our heads, but also stability and protection, as well as the opportunity to learn and grow. Children who grow up in a stable environment have a better chance of one day contributing to the development of their communities and helping to create a more just and peaceful world as adults. Every child deserves a safe home.
In Dortmund's Nordstadt district, Studio41 creates a safe space in which church can be experienced in a new way - open, inclusive and close to the needs of children and young people. With programs such as the open door, football matches, art workshops and the summer camp, Studio41 is aimed at young people who often don't feel at home in traditional churches. The result is a lively church that is there for everyone and where all children belong, regardless of their background or social status.
The number of inclusive facilities for children with intellectual disabilities is limited in rural areas of Indonesia. Churches and communities are making a difference here. With a kindergarten and a school, Alpha Omega offers a safe space in which children and young people are supported by special needs teachers to lead as self-determined a life as possible. In this lively community, there is a family atmosphere in which young people can experience community and feel at home.
Thousands of children and young people who have had to leave everything they know behind live in the refugee camps in eastern Congo. The Baptist Church in Central Africa (CBCA) is working hard to provide these young people with a place where they can feel safe. The church supports their families with tents, food, water and everyday items.
