th July 2015, managers of Climate Protection Programmes from 5 UEM member churches in DR-Congo and Cameroon, namely ECC, CDCC, CBCA, Cadelu and EEC churches and other invited guests participated in the workshop under the title: "Workshop and Exchange visit for managers of Climate Protection Programmes in five UEM member churches in Africa".
The participants are responsible for climate protection activities in their respective churches. The exchange visit and the two days workshop was therefore to enable the participants to learn from each other and also to explore how UEM member churches could effectively continue to respond to climate and environmental challenges. In his presentation, the UEM’s consultant for Climate Protection in the African Region, Richard Madete said, the goal of the workshop, which was hosted in Kinshasa at Kabinda Centre by the Church of Christ in Congo (in French, Église du Christ au Congo or ECC) was to promote awareness on environmental friendly technologies, modern methods of agriculture and forestation as well as advocacy work in the churches. He said, owing to increasing adverse effects of climate change especially in developing countries, the UEM, five years ago launched a Climate Protection Programme to help avert the worst effects of climate change. Through this programme, UEM is supporting interventions of member churches such as supporting farmers to attain food security, promoting application of renewable energy, forestation projects by planting trees and by protecting forests, reduction of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions and promoting use of Energy Saving Stoves (ESS). During the workshop, the delegates from member churches shared their experiences and best practices of climate protection projects: Read the whole report <media 3384 - external-link-new-window "Opens external link in new window">here</media>.
