The Evangelical Church of Westphalia (EKvW) is Germany's fourth-largest regional church, with more than 2 million members in 546 congregations. The 26 church districts are located in the north-eastern part of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

In the course of history, a presbyterial-synodal order developed in the EKvW. It states that the leadership of the EKvW at the congregational level lies with the elected presbyteries and at the district and state church level with the synods (district synod / state synod). Ordained pastors and presbyters work together on an equal footing in all governing bodies at all levels.

The Westphalian Regional Church maintains a variety of ecumenical partnerships within the UEM Communion of Churches. The partnership work takes place at the level of the church congregations and church districts and is supported by the oikos Institute for Mission and Ecumenism in Dortmund.
