The East and Coast Diocese is a growing diocese within the Evangelical-Lutheran Church of Tanzania. It has an important task for the church as a whole, since the Junior Seminary in Morogoro, one of the best secondary schools in the country, is located on its territory. It also provides a Swahili language course for non-Tanzanian employees of the ELCT.
The diocese has 88,488 members in 68 parishes. The numbers for full-time staff are: 63 pastors, 137 evangelists, 55 parish workers, 425 full-time staff. The main focus of the work of the diocese is on the one hand on the educational sector through its own schools and through the promotion of religious education in state schools. In addition, pupils with learning and physical disabilities are taught and supported in Mtoni. At the same time, further education for rehabilitation and special education is offered.
