Founded in 1836 by the Rhenish Mission in Borneo (Kalimantan), the church counts approx. 330.000 members in 1,267 congregations, 100 districts and served by almost 800 pastors. The GKE church is a member of the communion of churches in Indonesia (PGI) and was one of the first churches to ordain women in 1963.
