The East Java Christian Church (GKJW) was founded in 1814 and became independent in 1931. The church has been working with the UEM since 1981. The GKJW is a small, Protestant church in the province of East Java. It includes around 143,000 community members in 158 communities. There are 126 ordained pastors, of which 20 are female and 106 are male. The majority of the community's work is carried out by volunteers, especially church board members. This applies in the area of administration, in the diaconal and social areas (voluntary deacons), but also in teaching and church services. All officers in the church, including the church president, are elected for three years.
