The second seminar in the series ‘Colonial Continuities and Decolonial Perspectives’ examines the entanglement between coloniality and theology as well as strategies of decolonisation in church practice. With intersectional perspectives from South Africa and Germany, it provides a framework for reflection and exchange on postcolonial and decolonial theologies.
After a lecture by Prof. David Xolile Simon (University of Stellenbosch), the participants will develop practical approaches to activism, diversity management and queer theological education work as part of decolonising initiatives and processes in theological and ecclesiastical practice.
The working groups, accompanied by Antonia Meinert and Sarah Nketia (Decolonize Theology initiative), Timon Pauler (United Evangelical Mission) and Dr Hanzline R. Davids (University of South Africa), serve to promote exchange and develop specific proposals.
The seminar series ‘Colonial Continuities and Decolonial Perspectives’ examines colonial continuities in church relations between Germany and Southern Africa. It encourages critical reflection on history and its consequences, taking responsibility and embarking on decolonial paths. The three online seminars with lectures and interactive group work will be held in German and English (with simultaneous translation).
The series is co-organised by the oikos Institute for Mission and Ecumenism of the EKvW in cooperation with partner organisations such as the United Evangelical Mission (UEM) and the Kirchliche Arbeitsstelle Südliches Afrika (KASA). It is funded by Bread for the World and the Evangelical Church of Westphalia.
