The history of the Chinese Rhenish Church, Hong Kong Synod, goes back to 1847 when threee missionaries from the Rhenish Mission began to work in Hong Kong. Until the 1940s, churches were founded and schools were built in many places, as well as medical support. The oldest Rhenish community in China, founded in Taiping in 1847, has been self-governing since 1923, and the other communities sooner or later also became independent. The CRC aims at spreading the gospel, but is also active in a number of social projects, such as the UEM co-financed project for migrant workers.
