Rosmalia Barus appointed acting Moderator

The Council of the UEM, currently meeting in Pematangsiantar (Sumatra, Indonesia), today appointed the Indonesian theologian, Rosmalia Barus, as interim Moderator of the Communion of Churches in Africa, Asia and Germany. This decision of the internationally composed supervisory body became necessary after the death of the incumbent Moderator of the  UEM, Rev. Willem Simarmata, on 17 June 2022.

Rev. Rosmalia Barus (61) comes from the Karo Batak Church, Gereja Batak Karo Protestan (GBKP), in North Sumatra and has been a member of the supervisory board and Vice-Moderator of the UEM since 2016. As a member of the church leadership, she was responsible for the diaconal ministry of her church for many years.

The Interim Moderator will lead the UEM until a new Moderator is elected at the next General Assembly, which will take place in Villigst, Germany, 26-29 September 2022.
