An international study and training course for church workers
Worldwide, societies are becoming more diverse. Particularly in urban areas, people from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds live next to each other. This is a challenge for many Protestant churches which tend to be monocultural in their set-up and self-under-standing. How can they incorporate the diversity of the settings they find themselves in?
This international winter school for church workers covers the following areas: Migration, culture and Christianity, church and discrimination, ecclesiology, and intercultural communication.
Participants will receive materials for self-study for preparation, live and study in an intercultural and interreligious environment for two weeks, and develop their own projects to implement in their contexts after their return.
Preparatory team and resource persons:
Church workers (pastors, evangelists, youth leaders, women leaders, elders etc.) from UEM member churches and beyond who already have some experience in working in an intercultural setting or are interested in diversifying their church environment. They should hold at least a Bachelor degree. Willingness to work and communicate with the learning group in English is a must.
The participant fee is 1.200 Euro. This includes accommodation in double rooms (with a roommate from another country), food, excursions, and teaching materials.
Participants are responsible for their own travel to Colombo International Airport, Sri Lanka.
Upon application, participant fee and travel cost can be covered by UEM. But participants are strongly encouraged to first apply to their own churches for financial support. In case of support from UEM, UEM will be responsible to book the international flight ticket.
